Today I Feel… Overwhelmed

As finals week looms over my head I have realized just how much I have left to get done this semester and I’ve begun to feel extremely overwhelmed.

Basically, once Monday is finished I don’t actually have a lot of stuff left to do, so I know that I’ll be fine once I get there but right now I feel like I’m drowning in work. This weekend I have to write two papers, two speeches, discussion questions, study for my communications final, and study for my math final. Oh, and buy a Secret Santa gift for one of my roommates.

I also have to try and figure out something for an assignment for my Deaf culture class that has me extremely stressed out and it’s worth 10% of my grade and I have no idea what I’m going to do.

I’m going to go listen to history podcasts and work on my Hebrew scriptures prophet paper. Then sleep, I’ve had the worst sleep schedule as of late and I can feel my immune system starting to fail on me!

I’ll talk to you all tomorrow.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

To continue on with HarryXmasToYou, here are my favorite quotes from my reread of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret’s.

Fred laughed. “Yeah, Dad’s crazy about everything to do with Muggles; our shed’s full of Muggle stuff. He takes it apart, puts spells on it, and puts it back together again. If he raided our house he’d have to put himself under arrest. It drives Mum mad.” Page 31

I just love Mr. Weasley’s passion. It’s so funny.

“Yes, Arthur, cars,” said Mrs. Weasley, her eyes flashing. “Imagine a wizard buying a rusty old car and telling his wife all he wanted to do with it was take it apart to see how it worked, while really he was enchanting it to make it fly.” Page 39

But Harry, grinning widely, said, “This is the best house I’ve ever been in.” Page 41

I love how sincere Harry is in this quote. After years at the Dursley’s anything must be better. But we all know that he genuinely loves Ron’s house and family and it’s so sweet.

“Why,” demanded Ron, seizing her schedule, “have you outlined all Lockhart’s lessons in little hearts?” Page 95

Oh Ron, you’ll understand someday.

“At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in,” said Hermione sharply. “They got in on pure talent.” Page 112

Yes Hermione. You tell ’em!

He came around, rain falling on his face, still lying on the field, with someone leaning over him. He saw a glitter of teeth. “Oh, no, not you,” he moaned. “Doesn’t know what he’s saying,” said Lockhart loudly to the anxious crowd of Gryffindors pressing around them. Page 172

I love Harry’s reaction to seeing Lockhart and then Lockhart’s reaction is all “oh he’s in so much pain that he’s imagining me as someone else, the poor boy!” it’s just so funny.

“If anyone wanted ter find out some stuff, all they’d have ter do would be ter follow the spiders. That’d lead ’em right! That’s all I’m sayin’.” Page 264

I feel like this line would make Fudge think of Hagrid as even more crazed and I honestly think it’s hilarious.

The bell rang at that moment, which was lucky; at Malfoy’s last words, Ron had leapt off his stool, and in the scramble to collect bags and books, his attempts to reach Malfoy went unnoticed. “Let me at him,” Ron growled as Harry and Dean hung onto his arms. “I don’t care, I don’t need my wand, I’m going to kill him with my bare hands-” Page 267

There’s such a big difference in how Ron thinks of Hermione from the first book to this one and it’s so cute how protective he is over her now.

I would love more than anything to know how Ginny dealt with all this Chamber of Secrets stuff. Like there’s no way you can just bounce back from this! It would be really interesting to read about her struggles and how she overcame this really terrifying experience.

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Page 333

This was my senior quote so obviously I have to include it.

“Got a sock,” said Dobby in disbelief. “Master threw it, and Dobby caught it, and Dobby – Dobby is free.” Page 338

Not going to lie but I almost started crying after reading this scene again.

Two books down, five to go! Loving rereading these books again.

I hope you all had a good day.

‘Tis the Season

After my serious post regarding finals yesterday I figured I would lighten the mood today and share with you some of the pictures of my dorm room after me and my roommates decorated it last week.

We started off by saying we were going to decorate our door, and then it went from there. We were going to do more than what we actually did but we all ended up getting bored and decided to watch Christmas movies on ABC Family instead.

There’s our snowman!

I actually ended up making all of the snowflakes that we used to decorate except for one. I just kept finding new patterns on Pinterest that I wanted to try out and I got slightly addicted to snowflake making.

Here’s the snowflakes on our window.

The sunrise that morning was so beautiful and I thought it looked really cool through this snowflake. #art

The last part of our decorating night was the fireplace that we made.

Isn’t it adorable?

This was such a fun night. It made preparing for the last few weeks of the semester just a little bit better and I have to admit, our fireplace makes our room so much more homey than it was before. We’ve basically decided we’re keeping this up until Valentine’s Day!

Well, I should probably get back to the mountain of homework that I have left to do for tonight. Can’t wait for this semester to be over with! Only 12 more days!

I’ll be back tomorrow with my second Harry Potter quotes post.

Hope you all had a nice day.

Surviving Finals

Take a deep breath everyone… Smell that? That’s right! It’s the smell of fear and desperation as finals week looms in our near future.

This is my first time experiencing the joy that is college finals so I thought I’d share some of the things that I’m doing to get ready for them. I will admit though, that I have it pretty easy this semester and I’m really thankful for that. I only have two tests that I have to prepare for and only one of those tests is actually during our scheduled finals time. I do have a bunch of projects and papers and final assignments on the other hand so my advice is going to be geared more towards those.

So, without further ado, here’s how I’m surviving finals.Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

1 My finals are split up with one on a Friday and then the rest on Monday and Tuesday the next week. If any of the rest of you have a similar schedule I really recommend using the weekend. Spend that extra time you have to prepare for other tests or projects and save the parties or Netflix for Tuesday night.

2 Set a timer for 30 minutes and spend it working without any distractions. Then when those 30 minutes are finished, spend 5 minutes doing something else (like cleaning, going to the bathroom, packing, reading a nonacademic book, or watching some tv, Netflix, or YouTube). I started using this method right before Thanksgiving break when I had a lot of stuff that I needed to get done and I found that it does wonder for your concentration and work.

3 If your professors give things out ahead of time, get them done! I can’t even say this enough. A lot of my professors gave out assignments and projects and tests out way ahead of time and even though they aren’t due for  few weeks I’m already setting aside some time to work on them so that I won’t have to scramble and stress about them once it comes time to turn them in.

4 If you have extra time between classes, spend it studying. I know it’s so tempting to pick up your phone and spend that time in between your classes playing a game, or checking Instagram, but really, pick up your notes and study. I’ve been doing this for the past week and I really think it’s going to help me out.

5 Make a study guide! I know that opening up my notebooks or textbook and trying to study all that information can be extremely overwhelming so I decided to make study guides for some of my tests. Yesterday I made a study guide for my communications final and ended up summing up an entire textbook and all of my notes into 10 pages. I used the tests that my professor had given us over the course of the semester and used that to find the information that would most likely be on the final and expanded that into what I already had in my notes and what was in the textbook. It’s still a lot of information but it’s a lot less overwhelming than it had originally been.

6 Sleep. I know that a lot of you might be staying up really late to try and get everything that you need to get done done but try and get at least 7 hours of sleep a night if you can. Sleep is so important for you and trust me, your brain, grades, and immune system will all thank you for the sleep.

7 Lastly, make a countdown. Right now I only have 13 days left of my semester and I’m so excited. Knowing that the end of my first semester is getting closer is motivating me to finish my classes strong and power through to the end of finals.

I just want to end this post by wishing all of you fellow students good luck with your finals. I believe in you guys!

Have a great day everyone

A Christmas Craft

When I went home for Thanksgiving Break my siblings and I made a present for my mom and I thought I’d share it with you.

(Honestly, I’m just sharing this with you because I felt like taking artsy pictures of the paint plate!)

We were originally going to end the project here, but then we started coming up with more and more ideas, and it spiraled out of control.

We broke out all the paint I had… And then came the glitter.

And there’s the finished product! My siblings and I love making presents like this. We also made reindeer pajama shirts which I might share a picture of later in the month if I remember.

I hope you all had a nice day. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Now that I have finished rereading the first Harry Potter book I figured I’d share some of my favorite quotes with you from that book.

The Boy Who Lived-AWASOE

One small hand closed on the letter beside him and he slept on, not knowing he was special, not knowing he was famous, not knowing he would be woken up in a few hours’ time by Mrs. Dursley’s scream as she opened the front door to put out the milk bottles, nor that he would spend the next few weeks being prodded and pinched by his cousin Dudley… He couldn’t know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: “To Harry Potter – the boy who lived!” Page 17

Seriously get chills. Such a good ending to the first chapter.

“I know some things,” he said. “I can, you know, do math and stuff.” Page 49

I just love how Harry got defensive, trying to tell Hagrid he’s not completely ignorant. So cute.

Reading Harry Potter-AWASOE.jpg

The narrow path had opened suddenly onto the edge of a great black lake. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers. Page 111

The first view of Hogwarts!!!!

But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them. Page 179

The beginning of the Golden Trio.

Hermione is my favorite character. Always has been. I used to dress up like her all the time. Here’s a picture of me as her from a photoshoot my mom did back when I was in elementary school.

“You haven’t got a letter on yours,” George observed. “I suppose she thinks you don’t forget your name. But we’re not stupid-we know we’re called Gred and Forge.” Page 202

I swear, the more I read these books the more I love Fred and George. They’re so great.

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” Page 214

“Hagrid, you live in a wooden house,” she said. Page 233

This honestly never occurred to me when I was ever reading this before or watching the movie. How funny though. At least Hermione realized how unsafe it was to have a dragon in this regard.

“That’s chess!” snapped Ron. “You’ve got to make some sacrifices! I take one step forward and she’ll take me-that leaves you free to checkmate the king, Harry!” Page 283

Ron was so brave in this scene. I love that he was willing to sacrifice himself in order to let Harry go defeat “Snape” and save the Sorcerer’s Stone.

“Sent owls off ter all yer parents’ old school friends, askin’ fer photos… knew yeh didn’t have any… d’yeh like it?” Harry couldn’t speak, but Hagrid understood. Page 304

Hagrid is such a kind hearted, genuine person and I love how much he cares for Harry and wants him to be Happy. He brings so much joy to the story, I love him.

I hope you all enjoyed reading some of my favorite quotes from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone.
